Some of my paintings are on display at Copper Kettle Cafe in Waterdown for this month. My “Track Day” triptych has already found a new home!
I look forward to participating in more art shows in 2016.


Georgian Bay Morning

This is a photo of my first real landscape painting. It is from a picture of Georgian Bay taken by a family member  One of the techniques that I used most prominently was glazing. I like using glaze because it creates richer more vibrant colour. Glazing also helps with matching obscure colours because you can layer translucent hues over one another.

From November 9th to November 13th I had the privilege of teaching  a 6/7 class at Flamborough Centre Elementary School for the whole week! It was wonderful having the same group of kids for five days in a row as I was able to practise assessment through conferencing with the students. I was also lucky in that Mrs.Tovey, the teacher who I was covering,  was in charge of teaching junior art! It was so refreshing and fun to teach my favourite subject to students. I was able to feel confident about the progress they made while I was their teacher.

I look forward to finding an LTO that I can have a similar experience teaching!

Supply Teaching. One month down.

Ryerson Middle School

Ryerson Middle School- The first classroom I’ve felt at home in. I wish it could be mine one day!

What I learned in my first month of supply teaching:
Assert yourself early in the day.
Be kind but firm with students.
Arrive at least 30 minutes early.
Have an array of activities ready to go.
Learn trouble makers names within first 15 minutes.
Don’t hesitate when making decisions and be consistent.
Be friendly with secretaries, they are the best!
Talk to the Principal.
Socialize in the staff room, even if it sucks.
Wait for everyone to listen before giving instructions.
Ask office staff when attendance is done and if it is done digitally.
Ask the first students who arrive any questions you still might have about routines.
Kindergarteners will say they ‘love’ you…
Familiarize yourself with Children’s Aid procedures.
Give rewards.
Feeling overwhelmed 24/7 is the norm.
Thank everyone.
Be concise.
Check for all your belongings before you leave a school.
Always have your phone on you.
Leave a detailed report for the teacher you are covering.
Introduce yourself confidently and share a little bit about yourself with every class.
If you get a prep, help out somewhere else.
Avoid French Immersion jobs if you don’t speak French.
Have fun.
Be patient.

4Cats Arts Studio

August 2015 marked a whole year of teaching at 4Cats Arts Studio! I can’t explain how much I have learned since beginning at the studio last August. From teaching late night adult workshops, to grasping the different ways in which people are able to learn, I am so happy for the variety of experience I have gained.

One of the most valuable things I have learned at 4Cats is how to break down concepts or ideas into their smallest parts so that they could be understood easily. I quickly discovered that many of the words I used while teaching and the concepts that I thought were common place or ‘known’ were in fact totally alien to students (adults and children). Tailoring my language use and slowing down to take time to understand the level my students were at really enabled me to simplify curriculum for students.

So far, working at 4Cats has been my favourite job. Helping students create masterpieces and watching them develop or become confident in their abilities is the best feeling. I look forward to my new schedule at 4Cats, working Monday and Wednesday nights!

Awesome Summer Camps



While working at 4Cats I was lucky enough to volunteer at Flamborough Centre Public School in the mornings, only five minutes away from my house. I worked mostly with the grade eights learning how to use inquiry within lessons and projects. I also spent a month teaching a grade four art class. I had students use printmaking techniques and negative space to create artwork that conveyed a message. They looked awesome up on the bulletin board!
